1% For The Planet - backup - backup

When you drink our beer, you're giving back to our local environment!

We are a 1% for the Planet member and, as such, we donate at least 1% of our sales annually to local 1% for the Planet approved environmental non-profits.

What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate smart environmental giving. It pairs businesses and individuals with 1% FTP approved environmental nonprofits, creating high-impact partnerships that amplify the impact of members’ giving. It was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. Today, 1% for the Planet is a network of more than 3,000 members in more than 40 countries who have given over $270 million to protect our planet.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems.”

— from "Let My People Go Surfing" by Yvon Chouinard

How do we, Topa Topa, give back?

We have been a 1% for the Planet member since opening our first taproom in 2015. Since becoming a member, we have donated over $115,000 and have committed to donating at least 1% of our sales to environmental non profits annually in an effort to protect our planet. We donate cash, and a ton of beer for events, to our non profit partners throughout the year. We also hold many non profit partner events at our taprooms to bring awareness to our community and help amplify our partners voices and work.

Some of the environmental non profit partners we partner with:
Ventura Land Trust
Ojai Valley Land Conservancy
Surfrider Foundation
Los Padres ForestWatch
Los Padres Forest Association
Citizens for Responsible Oil and Gas (CFROG)
Food Forward
Wilderness Youth Project
Heal the Ocean
Axxess Fund
California Institute of Environmental Studies (CIES)
Runners for Public Lands
Environmental Defense Center
American Alpine Club
White Buffalo Land Trust

Beer is an agricultural product and without a healthy planet, there would be no tasty beer to enjoy. But that’s not the only reason we care about Earth: Here in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties in California, we are surrounded by amazing hiking, surfing, beaches, and camping, and wildlife. We stand by our motto that we think vans are better for camping than commuting. We believe these boots were made for hiking, not just walking. And, when the waves are epic, we think sharing them with a friend makes them even better. We must invest in caring for our home planet.

We urge you to join the movement as a business or individual member.
